Celosía School: Languages
(Reposted from my online study group, lightly edited for posterity. 🤔😁)
Accents! Scottish? Irish? ♥️♥️ Actually, just about any accent is fascinating to me. Fun fact, my husband Byron cannot yet distinguish all the different English accents, like Scottish to Irish to Australian, but he can tell Spanish accents apart very well (Spain or Argentina, he knows!) and I can't. Love it. 🤔🤩
Also, 1 minute language lessons, yes please!!
Language learning is another hobby of mine. Have we talked about this? I can't remember. Language learning is an important part of Celosia school.
If you want to follow along, start with the languages you are drawn to first, and I recommend picking a heritage language too (mine is Scots) and one that is in danger of extinction (I especially love choosing a local Native language for this one). Just learn a word or two. Find out what the alphabets looks like, and which direction do they read in?
I read this book by a ______ (polyglot? those people that speak/learn lots of languages) and he recommended starting with languages similar to the ones you already know. I like going broad before I go deep, so I am learning to count in ten different languages. I am writing them down on the fence outside and each time I park my car as I come and go, I'll recite a set. At least, that's the plan. I like the tactile reward of using chalk on the fence. Hebrew gets props as an ancient language for very straight line letters, ideal for writing in old-fashioned ways on hard surfaces (carving, chalk on wood, etc.).
My language list if you are curious:
English
Spanish
Hebrew
French
Italian
Portuguese
German
Romanian
Scots / Scottish Gaelic (haven't decided which to focus on yet)
Russian
I plan to learn to count to 10, the colors, and the alphabet in each, then maybe some directional words.
